Alongside the Cuba Libre and the Mojito, the Daiquiri is one of the three great Cuban cocktails, and by adding strawberries it gains texture and taste.
Rum, lime and sugar are at the base of the Daiquiri, a match made in heaven, and a natural combination in the Caribbean, where sugar cane is transformed into both sugar and rum. Drinks including these three base ingredients are recorded as early as 1740. Adding strawberries is not quite as old, but the practice is now fully established, and the combination with lime is a perfect match, the zesty citrus edge lifting juicy, subtly sweet strawberries.
